Grand Rapids Charter Township
Grand Rapids Charter Township is considered a charter township of Kent County, Michigan and has an estimated population of around 16,000 residents. The area is bordered by Grand Rapids, East Grand Rapids, Kentwood, Ada Township, and Plainfield Charter Township. The town first formed in 1834 before becoming officially designated by the State of Michigan in 1842. It did not become a charter town until the late 1970s when an agreement was created between the city of Grand Rapids for water and sewer services. Today, a small portion of the town shares water and sewer services with the nearby Plainfield Township. The area is home to the historic Knapp School House from 1851 and two fire stations that serve the community.
