The community is considered a census-designated area and is bordered by the cities of Wyoming and Kentwood. It was first formed in 1853 when John Cutler relocated his family from New York State. In 1891, the family built the Cutler Mansion, which went on to become the site for Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services. The city is just 5.9 square miles and is the home of Paralympic Games gold medalist Carlee Hoffman. It is located conveniently close to the Tanger Outlets Grand Rapids and the bustling retail district.
