Comstock Park

Comstock Park is a unique community located in Alpine Township and Plainfield Township, within Kent County, Michigan. It boasts a unique feel of urban and suburban living all in one area, with most of the 10,000 residents residing in the Alpine Township section. The town was first settled in 1838 by Daniel North and was referred to as “North’s Mill.” Over time, it has grown into a large transportation hub with the Western Indiana Railroad and the Grand Rapids and Indiana Railroad. The town gained its official name of Comstock Park in 1906 after government congressman Charles C. Comstock. Comstock Park is a census-designated place (CDP) and is also considered an unincorporated community. The entire Comstock Park CDP covers just 3.9 square miles, with 23 percent of that area containing water.

There is nearly an equal mix of homeowners to those who rent their homes, with many residents consisting of college students, young professionals, and families. The public and private schools in the area are highly rated and feature many sports and recreation programs for children to participate in. Comstock Park Public Schools are open to those in the community and all campuses are located in the CDP limits, excluding Pine Island. Comstock Park is known for being home to the West Michigan Whitecaps minor league baseball team, which is an affiliate for the Detroit Tigers. The Grand River is located just east of the city and is known for the floods that happen each spring.
